FC Kray has surprisingly reached the quarter-finals in the Lower Rhine Cup. There was a 3-1 victory at TVD Velbert.
In the round of 16 in Lower Rhine Cup the seventh participant for the quarterfinals was sought. And after Rot-Weiss Essen, MSV Duisburg, Wuppertaler SV, ETB SW Essen, SpVg Schonnebeck and SV Straelen, the top division also has FC Kray After a 3:1 (0:1) success at TVD Velbert, the ticket for the last eight was drawn.
Sixth against nineteenth of the Oberliga Niederrhein. One would think that it could become a clear affair. But FC Kray had something against that.
Although the favorite from Velbert took the lead before the break through Alexander Fagasinski, shortly after the break Dzenan Mucic equalized for Essen. Afterwards, the TVD wanted to take the lead again, but missed the best chances.

In the middle of the hosts’ urge phase then the Krayer. First FCK defender Johannes Sabah cleared the line and prevented Velbert from making it 2-1. Then coach Damian Apfeld’s team counterattacked, at the end of which Mucic scored again. But the 2:1 was not the end. When Velbert threw everything forward, Kray countered again and almost made it 3-1 at the final whistle through substitute Luka Bosnjak.
This means that a city duel is also possible in the quarter-finals, because four Essen clubs are still represented with Kray, RWE, Schonnebeck and the ETB. The draw is already on Thursday (1 p.m.).
TVD continues in the league on Sunday (3 p.m.) at home against Jahn Hiesfeld. FC Kray has to play against the top team VfB Hilden at the same time.
