BARCELONA, 9 (EUROPA PRESS)
The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, current number 10 in the ATP ranking, has confirmed his presence at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-69th Conde de Godó Trophy, which will be played at the RCTB-1899 from April 16 to 24, where he will try to improve the semifinals of 2021.
Sinner shone in his debut last year at the Barcelona tournament, where he narrowly missed the final after losing in the semifinals to the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-3, 6-3), who will also repeat the performance alongside the Spaniard and current champion Rafa Nadal, being the three ‘Top 10’ targeted at the moment.
At 20 years old, Sinner is the youngest of the top 18 tennis players in the ranking and one of those with the greatest projection on the circuit. «I am very excited to be able to announce that I will return to Barcelona to play your tournament. I had a great time last year, “said the Italian in statements provided by the tournament.
“I really enjoyed myself both inside the club and outside in the city and I am looking forward to meeting the fans again. I am very excited about the idea of being able to play for the first time in Barcelona with full stands », he pointed out in reference to the increase in capacity and the return to normality.
Sinner has five titles to his name – two tournaments in Sofia (Bulgaria), Melbourne, Washington and Antwerp – and has only lost one final, at the Masters 1,000 in Miami last year. “His unstoppable progression and his impudence when he enters the court make him one of the favorites to lift the title on the RCTB-1899 courts”, highlighted the organization of the tournament.
