For the first time in the history of the sport of table tennis in Puerto Rico, two national players occupy the first two places in the world ranking of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
Is about Steven Joel Moreno and Enrique Yezue Rioswho dawned on the list for week number 10, which began on March 8, as number one and number two, respectively, in the U-13 category.
“This is a great achievement. If you look at all the athletes come from European countries, economic powers and in the sport of table tennis”, declared Iván Santos, president of the Puerto Rican Table Tennis Federation (FPTM) when referring to the rest of the competitors that appear in the first ranking places.
Moreno, a native of Coamo, has been at the top of the list since the beginning of this year, while Ríos, from Morovia, was in third place below Austrian Benjamin Girlinger, who is now third.
Moreno, who has accumulated 409 points, comes from winning gold at the WTT Youth Contender Vila Real event, which took place in Portugal. Ríos, who has 232 points, was also active in the Portugal competition where he fell in the quarterfinals.
The outstanding performance of these athletes joins that of Adriana Díaz, who occupies the 11th position in the women’s ranking.
