Robin Pröpper made a special gesture on Sunday afternoon after his winning goal against SC Cambuur. The FC Twente captain kept his Ukrainian captain’s armband in the air and became emotional.

“I got a lot of good reactions and tried to make a statement,” says Pröpper at Rondo† “It surprised me a bit myself. It really suddenly occurred to me. Of course I knew I was wearing the captain’s armband, but I don’t score very often. When I put it in, I thought: I have to do something more with it A good statement to keep it up and still create a little awareness.”

The media zoomed in on the moment after the game. “Because it may not happen often in football and it may be allowed a little more often,” explains Pröpper. “The contrast is so great. We are in full joy in a stadium and a few hours by plane there is a war raging. I also found that the difficult thing about it and I tried to indicate it in this way.”

The promotion was also praised by former FC Twente player Ronald de Boer. “Everything is often directed, but the great thing is that this really comes from the heart. You can see that immediately. You also see his emotion and I think that makes it so special. That’s what the media goes for. Everything is often thought out in advance, but this comes from the person himself,” says De Boer.

Evgeniy Levchenko is very grateful to Pröpper. The president of the Association of Contract Players (VVCS) is from Ukraine and is busy day and night with the situation in his homeland. “I want to say to Robin: really respect you for what you have done† I sent you a message right away, but this is so beautiful. Words fail me. Examples like Robin go around the world,” said Levchenko.
