Kocēni “Rubene” Dominates Women’s Floorball League
The Kocēni “Rubene” women’s floorball team concluded the “Elvi floorball league” tournament with an undefeated record, securing a decisive victory on Thursday. In a thrilling match against their counterparts, Kocēni “Rubene – 1,” the home team triumphed with a final score of 9:7 (2:3, 4:3, 3:1).Despite a strong showing from “Rubene – 1,” who briefly held a 5:2 lead in the 28th minute thanks to Madlēna Rozīte’s goal, “Rubene” fought back relentlessly. Linda Līce’s goal in the 41st minute brought “Rubene – 1” to within one point at 7:6, but “Rubene” ultimately prevailed, extending their winning streak to an impressive 20 games.
Marta Lība Zameca and Simona grāpēna led the charge for “Rubene” with three performance points each (2 goals and 2 assists), while Laura Gaugere contributed three points (2 goals and 1 assist).On the opposing side, rozīte (3 goals and 1 assist) and Elīna Sirmā (2 goals and 2 assists) were the standout performers for “Rubene – 1,” each accumulating four performance points.
With this victory, “Rubene” finished the main tournament at the top of the standings with 60 points, leaving “Ķekavas Bulldogs” / NND trailing behind with 38 points. “Līgatne” secured third place with 33 points, followed closely by “Rubene – 1” and Cēsis “Lekrings” with 32 points each. “Ķekava” finished with 31 points, while NND / RJTC earned 14 points. “Irlava” / “Tukums-Slampe” regrettably ended the season without points.
The playoffs will see “Rubene – 1” facing off against “Lekrings” in a best-of-three series, while “Ķekava” will battle it out against “Līgatne” for a chance to advance.
This season, the men’s competition features 12 teams, while eight teams compete in the women’s league. The 2019/2020 season was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to the cancellation of the playoffs and leaving the Latvian champions and medalists undetermined. the previous championship,held in Valmiera,saw Kocēni “Rubene” emerge victorious.

Kristaps, Kocēni “Rubene” have utterly dominated this season, finishing undefeated with a truly remarkable 20-game winning streak. What are your thoughts on their performance?
Kristaps Zvirbulis: “It’s been an amazing display of skill and teamwork. “Rubene” have been a force to be reckoned with all season. They’ve shown exceptional resilience, particularly in the final against “Rubene – 1,” where they fought back from a deficit to secure a convincing win. Seeing a team maintain such consistency throughout a long season is truly remarkable.”
Indeed, the final against “Rubene – 1” was a nail-biter, with “Rubene – 1” taking a 5:2 lead before “Rubene” clawed their way back.Was there a turning point in that match?
Kristaps Zvirbulis:
“I believe Linda Līce’s goal in the 41st minute, bringing “Rubene – 1” within one point, really reignited the fire in “Rubene.” It sparked a shift in momentum, and “Rubene” capitalized on that shift, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure.”
Looking at individual performances, Marta Lība Zameca and Simona Grāpēna both put in stellar performances for “Rubene,” racking up 3 points each. Madlēna Rozīte and Elīna Sirmā were also standouts for “Rubene – 1.” What impressed you most about these players?
“Zameca’s and Grāpēna’s offensive prowess and vision were key to ‘Rubene’s’ success. They consistently created scoring opportunities. On the other side, Rozīte’s speed and agility were a constant threat, and Sirmā’s strong playmaking abilities kept “Rubene – 1″ in the game. Latvian floorball is blessed with such talent!”
“Rubene” clearly reigns supreme, finishing with a commanding 60 points. The playoffs promise to be exciting, with “Rubene -1” facing off against “lekrings” and “Ķekava” battling it out against “Līgatne.” What are your predictions?
Kristaps Zvirbulis: ” It’s going to be a tough fought battle, but I believe “Rubene – 1,” spurred on by their solid performance against “Rubene,” has a good chance against “Lekrings.” The match between “Ķekava” and “Līgatne” is a real toss-up; both teams are incredibly strong and evenly matched. I wouldn’t be surprised to see either team advance.”
What are your thoughts on the overall state of Latvian floorball?
Kristaps Zvirbulis: “” The Latvian floorball scene is thriving. The competition is intense, and the quality of play is exceptional.It’s exciting to see the sport continuing to grow and attract new fans.
