Judo. Dijonnais Cyrille Maret puts an end to his career

It is an important page that turns in the life of Cyrille Maret. At 34, the judoka from Dijon, part of the France team for many years, has decided to put an end to a rich career, marked by numerous national and international podiums.

“It’s a decision I’ve been thinking about for some time, I had set myself the Tokyo Olympics as my last goal, and even if I didn’t go, I was coming to the end of a cycle”, confides the Côte-d’Orien, victim of a road accident in October 2020 which had compromised his preparation.

“I no longer had this little flame”

Trained at ADJ 21, which he left at 17 to join Insep, Cyrille Maret had recently joined the Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois club after going through Étoile Sportive de Blanc-Mesnil or even the Levallois Sporting Club. “I redid a Paris tournament and the European Club Cup, but I saw that I was missing something, I no longer had this little flame,” he explains.

Although he lacks a major title in a major competition, the Dijonnais has forged a long track record over the years, crowned by a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016. He also has two titles of vice-champion in Europe in 2017 and 2018, but also five French champion titles in +100 kg and -100 kg.

In our Friday editions, you will find a long interview with Cyrille Maret explaining in detail the reasons for his choice and discussing his new projects.
