The Mercedes team raised the necessary eyebrows yesterday. The German racing stable appeared on the track with a very striking car. After all, the new W13 had very striking sidepods, in fact the sidepods sparkled in their absence. It seems that the German racing stable has found a significant loophole.
The rival teams looked at the brand new innovation from Mercedes with suspicion. After all, the German championship formation suddenly conjured a mega rabbit out of the top hat. In addition to the special sidepods, the team came up with a number of other, smaller, adjustments to the gray car. The other teams are naturally in the stomach with the striking Mercedes, intended competitor Red Bull Racing in particular.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner didn’t seem particularly happy with the major competitor’s new innovation. The Briton made some striking statements very early on during the test day. He seemed very critical of the German Auto, Motor und Sport: “The new Mercedes goes completely against the intentions of the new regulations. As far as we are concerned, not all parts are legal.”

Later in the day, however, something very striking happened. Red Bull suddenly made a rather special statement. After all, Horner’s statements had also come to the ears of the Austrian racing stable. A spokesperson for the team denied the statements: “Christian Horner has not given any interviews about the Mercedes car at all. All quotes attributed to him are therefore incorrect.” It was a striking moment, so it remains unclear whether Horner actually expressed himself in this way.
