A moment of Ederson Moraes squatting in the Manchester Derby last weekend went viral. The Manchester City goalkeeper gave an explanation.
Ederson undeniably did not work much when Man City thrashed Manchester United 4-1 at the Etihad, Sunday (6/3/2022). The Red Devils only made two attempts towards City’s goal from a total of five attempts. Only one goal was nested in Ederson’s goal, which was scored by Jadon Sancho in the first half.
The Citizens appeared very dominant in that match. Man City even recorded possession of the ball which reached 93 percent in the last 15 minutes in a 3-1 lead position.
In that situation, Ederson advances to the circle area on the halfway line. The Brazilian goalkeeper crouched while watching his team-mates surround the Red Devils defensive area, the camera capture of which has gone viral on social media.
After a landslide victory over Manchester United, Ederson has the potential to return to face an easy match when he hosts Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, Thursday (10/3/2022) WIB. Man City are already one foot in the quarterfinals, following a 5-0 win in the previous encounter.
Ahead of the Man City vs Sporting Lisbon match, Ederson opened up about his squatting moment in the Manchester Derby. Ederson said the position is not something new.
“I saw the picture after the game. I’ve been in that position a few times – when in corner kicks or throw-ins I try to play high to stop the counter-attack, try to win the ball, that’s something I do a lot of the time,” he said.
“Because it’s a derby, so pay more attention. That’s how I play. Pep likes it when I play like that. I need to be prepared for everything. A counter-attack for us if we can get the right passes. did very well,” said Ederson M.E.N.
