“I can’t imagine not being able to talk about your identity.” That’s how he summed up Coco Gauffthe young American star (number 19 in the WTA ranking), his indignation at the bill being discussed in the state of floridafrom which it is natural, to prohibit any type of discussion in schools in relation to the sexual orientation of students, repressing, in his opinion, gender identity for many students.
“I think these conversations between young people are important and for me, having friends in the LGBTI community, I can’t imagine not being able to talk about your identity. I feel like that’s something that’s normal.”commented the tennis player, about to debut in Indian Wells.

The billbacked by the Republican Party, is called ‘Parents’ Right to Education’ and prohibits classes on sexual orientation or gender identity for children from the age of nine in public schools. The opposition speaks of this measure as the “don’t say I’m gay” law and the debate has risen beyond the borders of Florida to settle throughout the United States.
“Every LGBTI person I’ve ever met knew they were part of that community since they were young,” Gauff said. “I think it’s important that they have those conversations at school, because that’s supposed to be a safe space to talk about everything“.
