Aaron Rodgers. Goodbye to the rumors, he stays in the Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers intends to play an 18th season with the Packers de Green Baya decision that would take the reigning MVP off the NFL free-agent market.

The announcement also resolves the biggest question mark hanging over the league this offseason ahead of next season.

Rodgers posted a message on Twitter Tuesday confirming he will be back: “Yes, I’ll be playing for the Packers next year,” Rodgers said. “However, reports that I signed the contract are inaccurate, as are the terms of the contract that I ‘signed.’ I’m very happy to be back.”

The NFL Network and Pat McAfee, who hosts “The Pat McAfee Show” on SiriuxXM and YouTube, said Tuesday that Rodgers would stay with the Packers next season. Rodgers has a weekly slot on the McAfee show during the season.

NFL Network reported that Rodgers, 38, has agreed to a four-year, $200 million deal, of which $153 million is guaranteed. McAfee denied this report and said that “the contract was not finalized,” but added that Rodgers agreed to continue with the Packers.

The decision of Rodgers It would have come nearly a month after he won his second straight MVP award and fourth of his career, all at Green Bay.

He indicated that he wanted to announce his future before the start of free agency next week. The report on his decision came at the deadline for the Packers to decide to give wide receiver Davante Adams the franchise tag.

Almost simultaneously, Green Bay assigned that tag to Adams. Unless the star wide receiver signs a long-term deal before July 15, he will earn $18.4 million in 2022.

Doubts about his future at the time stemmed from the disagreement between Rodgers and the board. Rodgers said on several occasions in recent months that his relationship with team executives had improved significantly.

Calling his future a “beautiful mystery” at the end of the 2020 season, Rodgers skipped organized team activities and the mandatory minicamp after a deadlock in talks with the team’s board.

At the time, he said that he wanted to have more participation in the decision-making process.

General manager Brian Gutekunst indicated that the relationship was in a good place.

“I feel confident of where we are now,” Gutekunst said during the combine of the NFL.

Rodgers had a rocky 2021 campaign on several counts, most notably for a few remarks he made about whether or not he would have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

He also had to deal with a broken little toe for most of the year, but continued to play at a high level. He threw 20 touchdown passes with no interceptions in his last seven regular season games.

He led the Packers to a 13-4 record and their fourth consecutive league title. Northern Division of the National Conference.

But the season ended with a disappointing playoff performance. The Packers they scored just one touchdown on the game’s first drive and never reached the end zone again in a home loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
