Leader Union didn’t miss a beat on OHL’s field. Thanks to the inevitable Deniz Undav, it corrected an early deficit and rolled the OHL completely after halftime. Union is thus once again putting the pressure on the competitors, OHL has to gradually forget about a play-off ticket.
Oud-Heverlee Leuven – Union in a nutshell
- Key moment: Union comes out of the locker room with the steamroller and rolls mercilessly over a defenseless OHL. In less than fifteen minutes there are three balls behind Runarsson and the game is completely over.
- Man of the Match: Deniz Undav scored with an unparalleled volley, an opportunistic cat’s paw and a confident penalty. Thanks to his hat-trick, the German tears himself apart from Michael Frey in the ranking of the top scorers.
- Remarkable: Union is by far the best away team in the Jupiler Pro League with 41 out of 48. Even when it falls behind, Union is the first of the class. It happened ten times to the men of Mazzu, but they still got 13 points from it.
Whirling Union bends early backlog
The momentum was immediately set in the game with opportunities for Teuma, Tamari and Lapoussin. An early goal also fell out of the sky, although it took OHL foolish handplay from Kandouss to do so. Moris saved the first penalty from Schrijvers, but he was given a second chance because the goalkeeper had left too early. He chased it bone-dry into the top corner.
Union was not discouraged and went looking for the equalizer. The visitors forced a series of corner kicks and Kozlowski shot wide, somewhat hastily. Undav later showed his young teammate how to finish in a controlled manner. The striker took a pass nicely on his shoe and sent it past Runarsson. Leuven answered with a streak from Mercier against the bar.
After the break, however, Union did not tolerate any more contradictions. After a warning from Lazare, it was again Undav who struck in the back of Dewaest. Dewaest also stood out as a pillar of salt at the 1-3. Teuma went straight ahead with childish ease and finished neatly. When Union also got a penalty kick, the light at Den Dreef could go out completely. Undav completed his hat-trick and made the last half hour completely useless.
Undav: “Hope I can score even more”
Deniz Undav beamed, because he was allowed to take home another match ball. “I still have enough room for it,” laughed the Union striker. “My first goal tonight may not have been my best, but it’s close.”
After the break it was simple football for Union. “Certainly at 1-2 and 1-3 we got more space. We just had to score one more goal to finish the game. Now the fans can party and drink beer.”
The end of the regular season is gradually approaching. “There are three more matches to come. I am looking forward to it. I hope I can score more goals, but the three points remain the most important”, the German did not lose sight of the overall picture.
