Tsukkomi jime (It means pushing strangulation) is one of the twelve breathing strangulation techniques of Judo (Shime waza) very effective and easy to perform. It is mainly executed when Uke is on his back, putting pressure on the trachea with a flap and pushing hard.
Execution of the technique
Tsukkomi-jime can be applied in a standing position, with Uke on his back and Tori on top or to the side. In the latter case, it is essential to control Uke with the legs. This strangulation has an immediate and paralyzing effect that increases when the contact action is exerted on the lower part of the neck. Starting from the position where Tori is on top of Uke he controls Uke’s right lapel with his left hand and uses a straight arm thrust with his right hand which does most of the action. In the crucial phase, Tori’s arm relaxes and the whole body weight rests on the opponent’s neck in order to increase the energy of the action.
Specifics of the technique
- It is one of the easiest chokes to perform.
