This weekend saw the first regional badminton competition – the Occitanie championship – organized at the Vigan sports complex by the Badminton Bouriane club (BBC), the Occitanie badminton league and the Lot de badminton departmental committee.
The gymnasium meets the approvals required by the federations, and makes it possible to compete in indoor sports competitions, whether departmental, regional or national. This brand new sports hall is an asset for Bouriane which will allow clubs to make themselves known and develop.
A first that elected officials could not miss, with the presence and participation of departmental advisers, Edith Lagarde and Frédéric Gineste, who came to hand out prizes offered by the department to all competitors. Similarly, there was Jean-Marie Courtin, president of the CCQB, accompanied by vice-president Michel Falantin and Josiane Clavel, president of the WHO, and of course, Jean-Michel Favory, mayor of Vigan.
More than a hundred competitors
The stands were able to accommodate no less than 500 people over the two days and more than a hundred Occitan chick and junior athletes competed, including eleven Lotois including three players from the BBC, the juniors Malhia Crouzet and Clément Ageorges and the chick Maëlia Brunau.
For the Lotois, there have been a good number of podiums but unfortunately no qualification for the French championships. It’s only a postponement: they will have to work on their weak points by training in this pleasant and well-designed place that is the Vigan gymnasium.
We salute the investment of the many volunteers and members of the BBC for the organization, because such a competition requires a lot of work, but also the involvement of Floriane Nurit from the France U17 team, coaches, referees and the judge- referee Lawrence.
The French youth badminton championship will take place from November 11 to 14 in Mulhouse.
The next major event organized by the BBC will be an adult tournament on January 15 and 16, 2022.
