Callaway has “suspended” its long-standing partnership with Phil Mickelson following his controversial comments regarding the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed Super Golf League proposal.
It was revealed last week that Mickelson called the Saudis ‘scary ****** shit to get involved with’ and questioned the country’s human rights record in an interview with Alan Shipnuck for his next book about the 51-year-old.
Despite this, Mickelson said the proposed league threat presents players “a unique opportunity to reshape the way the PGA Tour works.”
Mickelson apologized for his “reckless” comments on Tuesday and said he would take a break from golf.

The comments were widely criticized by the golf community, with Rory McIlroy calling the six-time Major winner’s comments “selfish and ignorant”.
Mickelson said he had offered to end contracts with any sponsors who felt they could no longer support him and KPMG announced shortly after Mickelson’s statement that it had “mutually agreed” to end to their partnership with Workday and Amstel.
Callaway has now decided to take a break from his long term with the American.
A statement from the Californian supplier said: “Callaway does not condone Phil Mickelson’s comments and we were very disappointed with his choice of words – they in no way reflect our values or what we stand for as a company. .
“Phil has since apologized and we know he regrets the way he has handled recent events. We recognize his desire to step away from the game and respect that decision. At this time, we have agreed to suspend our partnership and will reassess our ongoing relationship at a later date. »
