In the statement made by the President of the Turkish Basketball Federation, Hidayet Türkoğlu, it was said, “I learned with deep sadness the news of the death of Mrs. Sevim Bilgin, who was the captain of our first Women’s National Basketball Team. May God have mercy on the deceased, my condolences to her family and our community.”
WHO IS SEVİM SAYIK Bilgin?
It is noted that Sevim Sayın Bilgin, born in 1939, was the first captain of the Women’s National Team in the bilateral contact matches played with Germany and Austria. It is reported that Bilgin, who was also in the Gazi Education and METU staff, also wore the uniform of the national team at the University Games held in Sofia in 1961.
