Cristiano Ronaldo almost single-handedly handed Manchester United the win against Tottenham. He gave United the lead on three occasions, the third time was the right time: 3-2.

He stood up when Manchester United really needed him. After the agonizing defeat in the Manchester Derby, United couldn’t afford another misstep and Cristiano Ronaldo single-handedly made it happen.

His opening goal was a powerful long shot into the top corner, just before half time the Portuguese goalkeeper struck a second time with an assist from Jadon Sancho. In between, Harry Kane had equalized from the spot.

Manchester United needed Ronaldo one more time deep into the second half. After Maguire’s own goal, the home team seemed to be missing points again, but that was out of the question – Ronaldo.

With a buffalo punch on a corner, he headed the 3-2 on the scoreboard. It is Ronaldo’s 59th hat-trick in his career, his first in a Manchester United shirt since 2008.

With the hat-trick, Ronaldo also surpassed Czech Josef Bican (805) as the all-time top scorer in official matches. He now has 807 goals. FIFA does not see this as an official record.

The Brazilians Romario and Pelé themselves calculated that they scored 1,000 and 1,283 goals, but they include goals in friendly matches. The statistics are at 772 for Romario and 767 for Pelé. Lionel Messi has 759 goals. Bican scored 805 goals between 1931 and 1955.
