Postema turns the Euroborg upside down, Groningen now eighth after a spectacle

Romano Postema has shown FC Groningen the way to eighth place in the Eredivisie in a swirling Euroborg. In a match with all the trimmings, two goals from the substitute were enough for a spectacular victory over direct competitor NEC (4-3).

NEC played more than seventy minutes with one man less. And Rogier Meijer’s team seemed positively stimulated by the easily given red card to Souffian El Karouani, because the visitors’ football kept getting better after that.

Push with the head

El Karouani allowed himself to be provoked by Jørgen Strand Larsen. According to the rules of the game, sending the left back was completely justified, after a nudge with the head. However silly the offense may have been, similar incidents are sometimes treated less severely.

“It’s completely arbitrary,” Meijer grumbled.

NEC played with soul and bliss and suddenly took the lead after a spectacular half hour, after Lasse Schöne (free kick) and Magnus Mattsson (after defensive fumbling) had completely turned things around.
