Venanzi, it started well, it ended badly

The outgoing president had everything to seduce: from Liège, a supporter of Standard, gifted in business. But his choices ended up becoming unreadable.

There are two ways to take stock of Bruno Venanzi’s presidency.

Remembering the last moments, and this last catastrophic season, which would be a somewhat simplistic shortcut. Or take a step back, and remember that under his tenure, Standard won two Belgian Cups (2016 and 2018), that he took part in three consecutive European campaigns in the group stage (Europa League), a first in the history of the club, but that he was not often enough at the playoffs 1, the marker of the clubs that matter in Belgium, to the point that he will leave the G5 soon.
