Dimitri Van den Bergh just failed to qualify for the final of the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim on Sunday. In his semifinal, the 27-year-old Belgian lost 7-6 to the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen.
Dimitri Van den Bergh (PDC-9) had every opportunity to win against the number 3 in the world. Our compatriot forced several chances against Michael van Gerwen to finish it, but missed 3 match darts.
Van Gerwen then mercilessly punished Van den Bergh’s misses. He outplayed his opponent with a double 18. Van den Bergh achieved an average of 100.97 points per three darts, Van Gerwen did slightly better with 101.26.
In the final, Van Gerwen outperformed Englishman Rob Cross (PDC-10) 8-5. For the Dutchman it is his 33rd title on the European Tour, although his previous victory dates from 3 years ago.
