Another excellent race for the Ortoetruria-WeCom Blue Star Viterbo who with a performance of absolute quality and great authority overwhelms the Pass Roma 90-65 and gives its fans a screaming score with 15 wins out of 16 races, closing the first phase which deserved lone leaders with the record of successes between the teams of both groups of the championship.
Fanciullo relies on the tried and tested starting-five with the young Cecchini instead of the unavailable Rubinetti. First 5 minutes point by point with Martino and Procaccio responding to Meroi, Cittadini and Price, but then the Star changes gear and with two triples from Meroi and Pebole begins to stretch. Rovere enters who literally climbs into the chair and in the second fraction puts 19, supported by Piazzolla and Taurchini, while the Pass is in trouble and suffers the aggressive defense of the bianconostellati. A bomb of Parlato, Cianci from the line and the usual Martino are not enough for the guests to buffer the pressure of the biancoblu who go to the half-time rest at 51-28 with two last beautiful achievements by Piazzolla and Taurchini.
Third fraction in greater balance with a lot of turnover used by Child. Rogani is as usual precise from the arc in the corner, Price and Cecchini sign up several times on the scoresheet while the Romans rely on Butteroni’s good vein and on the outside shots of Parlato and Argenti that file a bit the gap on 69- 51 for Ortoetruria-WeCom.
Last 10 ‘and the Viterbo people continue to grind the game and keep the pace high: 6 consecutive points from Rovere, Taurchini’s basket and a triple from Casanova with a shot from distance by Petrangeli and only Martino who, however, scores 11 points in the fourth. However, the Romans surrendered and an “on fire” oak, a triple from Casanova, Taurchini and three final points from Cecchini closed the match 90-65 for the Stella Azzurra Viterbo.
Good game, well played by all of Fanciullo’s men even if he had nothing more to say for the classification. A demonstration of the solidity of all the protagonists (with an excellent performance by the young people who have repaid the trust and the more than deserved time allowed by a coach who during this season has worked very well making them grow a lot) to whom the convinced satisfaction has gone of the numerous present at PalaMalè.
Now a one-week stop to define the dates of the races of the next “clock” phase, really incomprehensible in its formula which in reality takes little account of the results obtained on the field by the best in the standings. But the Star, if it is able to give continuity to this phase of the season played in a valuable way, will certainly be able to assert itself also in the next part of the championship which will decide the teams that will access the playoffs.
For now a convinced and huge applause to a group and a staff who have so far brought the colors of Viterbo basketball so high. Even if the road ahead is still very long and full of difficulties.
