Romanian international referee Ovidiu Hategan suffered a heart attack this weekend, according to the Romanian daily Gazeta Sporturilor. He reportedly underwent surgery as a result of this health issue.
His condition would now be stable but the 41-year-old man will remain under observation for several days at the Timisoara hospital. Urgently operated on after feeling chest pains, doctors placed a stent on him.
Ovidiu Hategan had recently been the main referee for the round of 16 second leg between Lyon and Porto in the Europa League. He also participated in the last Euro 2020 by officiating during pool matches.
