BRADENTON, Fla. – Nelly Korda, the Olympic gold medalist and US No. 1, was diagnosed with a blood clot in her arm and has returned home for treatment.
Korda, who sits at No. 2 in the LPGA rankings, posted on her social media accounts that she was at Ponte Vedra Beach on Friday for a commercial shoot when her arm appeared to swell after a routine morning workout.
She went to the emergency room as a precaution and was diagnosed with a blood clot. She didn’t mention which arm it is.
23-year-old Korda said she is home for treatment, will post updates as they become available, and hopes to return to the game soon.
Last year, Korda became one of the LPGA’s biggest stars when she won her first major at the LPGA Championship to climb to No. 1 in the world and won gold at the Games. Tokyo Olympics for one of his five victories.
She ended the year contesting the PNC Championship with her father, Petr, a Grand Slam tennis champion who won the Australian Open in 1998.
Korda has decided not to play the LPGA tournaments in Asia for the past two weeks and was scheduled to play the JTBC Classic next week near San Diego. The LPGA’s first major tournament of the year, the Chevron Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif., begins March 31.
