The tennis players from Corrientes Ignacio Monzón and Lautaro Midón begin today their participation in the individual main draw of the M25 ITF World Tennis, which since yesterday takes place at the facilities of the Gimnasia y Esgrima de Rosario club. The competition takes place on surfaces of brick dust and distributes 25 thousand dollars in prizes. Both will also compete in the doubles.
In his first appearance in Futures contests, Midón (turns 18 today) and who currently ranks 1552 in the rented field, will face his compatriot Tomás Farjat. The native of San Nicolás is 21 years old and is ranked No. 695 in the world ranking. The game that will take place on field 3 of the Rosario club will start no earlier than 12 and will be the first to face them in the professional field.
The last performance of the man from Corrientes was at the JA in Criciuma, Brazil (Grade A tournament), which took place from February 21 to 26. In the competition he reached the quarterfinals and lost to the Peruvian Rodrigo Bueno 7-6 (4), 3-6 and 3-6. For his rival on duty, it will be the first presentation of the year.
For his part, Ignacio Monzón (24 years old, 798 in the professional ranking), on his return to the circuit after more than a month and a half of inactivity, will face Santiago Rodriguez Taverna (22 and 221 in the international ranking), and it is the maximum favorite to stay with the competition. This will be the third time that the man from Corrientes and the man from Buenos Aires face each other on the circuit. The two previous occasions that played the victory was Rodriguez Tavarna.
Monzón’s last appearance on the circuit was in the M15 of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, a tournament played from February 14 to 20. There he lost in the first round against the Swiss Mirko Martínez 2-6, 7-6 (7) and 5-7. His rival, meanwhile, two weeks ago participated in the main draw of the Challenger in Santiago de Chile, where he lost in the initial round.
The meeting between Monzón and Rodriguez Taverna will take place no earlier than 12 o’clock on court 1 of the Gimnasia y Esgrima club.

Ignacio Monzón will also be active today in the doubles draw. In the company of Nicoleño Tomás Farjat, the couple made up of Francisco Faigenbaum and Gonzalo Villanueva will face each other. The match will take place no earlier than 3:30 p.m. on field 5 of the venue where the tournament is being held.
Lautaro Midón will also play the doubles draw. He will play together with Juan Manuel La Serna, his teammate on the Argentine tennis team, in the third edition of the South American Games that will take place in Rosario in late April and early May.
The Argentine couple in the M25 of Rosario will face in the first round the duet made up of the Bolivian Murkel Dellien and the Peruvian Arklon Huertas del Pino. This meeting would be scheduled for tomorrow.
The Paddock Cup is the first of its kind in the region. In addition, Rosario will host another similar event next week, which allows players, on the one hand, to have tournaments in the country or near their homes to reduce costs and also to add points almost from the beginning of the season.
