Emmen was the boss in the first half, Telstar was only involved in sparsely. Yet Telstar came back into the game just before tea via a short corner. The pass from Ozan Kökcü (brother of Feyenoord midfielder Orkun) landed on the head of 35-year-old striker Glynor Plet, who struggled handsomely for his direct defender: 1-1.
After the break Emmen quickly put things in order. Rui Mendes dribbled into the enemy penalty area with a bit of luck and found the detached Jari Vlak. The midfielder fired convincingly from the edge of the penalty area. Emmen failed to decide the match with a third goal. But it didn’t matter: Telstar created almost nothing in the second half.
The team from Emmen is six points apart from the weak number two FC Volendam, which still has one match due. Number three Excelsior is eight points behind the leader.
The champion and number two of the Kitchen Champion Division are promoted directly to the Eredivisie. With six rounds to go, the highest podium for Emmen is therefore increasingly visible.
Almere City continues to win
Speaking of good form: Almere City is slowly emerging as the Emmen of the right-hand row. Earlier in the day, the team from Flevoland traveled south to Maastricht for the game against MVV.
The team of Alex Pastoor and assistant coach Hedwiges Maduro, number 13 in the first division, won nine games this season, five of which in the last six games. It was also easy against MVV. At halftime it was already 0-2 thanks to two goals from Ilias Alhaft. In injury time, Jonas Arweiler increased the Maastricht hangover by scoring the 0-3.
