After two years of waiting, Mexico City (CDMX) will once again host the 2022 “Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi” National Children’s Judo Championship, the highest martial art event in these categories that will become the hotbed of future national champions.

The announcement of this event, which was postponed in 2020, was made on the official Facebook page of the Mexican Judo Federation FE MEX JUDO Officialwhere it was reported that this event will take place from May 19 to 22, next.

The National Children’s Judo Championship “Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi”, is one of the relevant events for the development of martial art in Mexico, since it becomes a tournament where practitioners with skills to develop towards future national and international competitions are detected.

For this reason, children’s judokas from all over the country attend this event that will be organized by the Judokas Association of CDMX (Judo CDMX), in coordination with the Mexican Judo Federation, the support of the Mayor’s Office Gustavo A Madero and the Institute of Sport of Mexico City so it will be open to all affiliated associations, for practitioners from 9 years of age.

For now, the venue for the 2022 “Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi” National Children’s Judo Championship remains to be confirmed, which, as mentioned, will take place from May 19 to 22, next.

It is worth mentioning that this championship is held in homage to Sensei Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi, a pillar of the development of judo in Mexico, who formed great competitors for the first world medals and trophies for Mexico.

The teacher arrived in Mexico in 1964 to take charge of the national team for the Olympic Games, including Japan that same year, Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976, as well as the Central American and Pan American Games.

In 1987 he returned to Izu, Japan, where in 1995 he opened “La Posada”, a restaurant and guest house whose decoration recalls the years and affection that Sensei Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi lived in Aztec land. He passed away in September 2018.
