Discarded from the first team at Fenerbahçe (see here), Mesut zil (33) would pay a rant against his coach after his replacement at halftime of the match against Konyaspor (2-1). According to his former teammate at Arsenal, Nacho Monreal (36), this is not the first time that the character of the Turkish attacking midfielder has caused him some concern.
“Zil’s problem is that he had problems with everyone, the Spaniard told FourFourTwo. It ended badly with Wenger, he didn’t play the last games. Then Emery tried to revive him and make him our leader. At first he gave him a lot of confidence, Mesut played a lot. But then the coach understood that there were other players in better shape. zil was one of the best players in the team, one of the highest paid, but they saw that he was not up to par.”
The Gelsenkirchen native eventually left Arsenal in January 2021 to join Turkey. Where his adventure took a funny turn again…
