Venezuela will participate in the South American Youth with 185 athletes

The Minister of Youth and Sports of Venezuela, Mervin Maldonado, announced on Tuesday that 185 Venezuelan athletes will participate in 24 of the 26 sports disciplines of the third edition of the South American Youth Games. These will be held in Argentina between April 28 and May 8.

“Work has been carried out since the organization of the National Sports Games in its 20th edition, which had the fundamental conception in the youth category, with a view to opening the competitive calendar of this new Olympic cycle,” said the minister, quoted in a Press release of the National Sports Institute (IND).

Athletes will participate in athletics, badminton, beach handball, 3×3 basketball, boxing, cycling, climbing, fencing, futsal, artistic gymnastics and judo. As well as karate, weightlifting, Olympic wrestling, swimming, speed skating, rugby, skateboarding, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, triathlon and beach volleyball.

Maldonado indicated that young people between 14 and 17 years of age will compete in this event.

About 15 countries in more than 20 disciplines

The third edition of the South American Youth Games will feature the participation of 2,500 athletes from 15 countries in a program of 26 sports, according to the official website of the competition.

The athletes will meet in Rosario, province of Santa Fe, Argentina, between April 28 and May 8 at Parque Independencia. The place will be transformed into the Unique South American Park.

On May 25, 2012, the creation of the South American Youth Games was announced. This on the occasion of the celebration of the General Assembly of the South American Sports Organization (Odesur).

The first edition of these games was held in Peru in 2013 and four years later, in 2017, in Chile.
