After a serious accident on Autobahn 24 in which one person died and another was seriously injured, the police are looking for two truck drivers who fled the accident.
As a police spokesman said on Wednesday, the accident happened shortly after midnight between the Wöbbelin and Hagenow (Ludwigslust-Parchim) exits in the direction of Hamburg. According to previous knowledge, a 34-year-old man drove his van and high speed onto a truck.
The transporter lost the engine, fell on one side of the vehicle and stopped in the fast lane. As a result, a 57-year-old driver from Berlin drove into the wreck of the van. The driver had just overtaken another truck and probably recognized the scene of the accident too late.
The 34-year-old van driver from the Ludwigslust-Parchim district died at the scene of the accident. The Berlin driver came to a Schwerin clinic with serious injuries. He shouldn’t be in mortal danger.
An uninvolved motorist in the oncoming lane stopped and reported the accident. His car was also damaged by debris.

The two truck drivers are said to have stopped briefly, but then continued west. The overtaken truck must have collided with the engine block of the van and therefore also have damage, it said. The search for the two trucks has so far been unsuccessful.
The A24 remained closed until Wednesday morning to recover the accident vehicles. The police are investigating on suspicion of negligent homicide. An expert is to examine the course of the accident more closely, about 40 kilometers from the state border with Schleswig-Holstein. The property damage was estimated at at least 120,000 euros. (dpa)
