Harry Maguire’s fellow players showed their support on social media for the defender last night. Earlier that evening, loud boos resounded at Wembley Stadium as Maguire’s name was called out.
It was a false note last night during the friendly international between England and Ivory Coast. Harry Maguire was booed by the English fans when his name rang out on the stadium. The reason for the incident is said to be the defender’s recent performance at his club Manchester United.
After the match, Maguire’s teammates expressed their displeasure on Twitter. “What happened tonight is just plain wrong,” said Jordan Henderson. “Maguire has already been great for England. Without him the last two tournaments would have been impossible.”
Harry Kane was also not pleased with the behavior of the English supporters: “Maguire really does not deserve these reactions. He enjoys the full support of everyone in the dressing room and the fans should too.”
England eventually won easily from the Ivory Coast 3-0 last night.
