In the Auditorium Gymnasium of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), on March 29, the Morelos delegation that will participate in the regional qualifying stage towards the 2022 National Universiade was flagged.
Gabriela Mendizábal Bermúdez, director of Higher Education of the UAEM, representing the Academic Secretary, José Mario Ordóñez Palacios, and Arturo Cornejo Alatorre, Secretary of Education of Morelos, championed the delegation made up of 250 Morelos students who will compete for their pass to the most important university sports fair in the country.
The regional stage will be held from March 31 to April 19 in Morelos and Mexico City in the disciplines of chess, athletics, basketball, soccer, association soccer, 3X3 basketball, tae kwon do, handball, tennis, archery , beach volleyball and indoor volleyball, as well as national qualifiers at different venues for badminton, college boxing, sport climbing, judo, karate and weightlifting.
Gabriela Mendizábal celebrated that after confinement these competitions can be held, “because sport is essential to combat a sedentary lifestyle and improve the health of students, it contributes to learning how to face life with a positive attitude, with discipline, work and determination, hence the importance of highlighting the young people who attend today”.
In addition, he highlighted that the 112 degree programs offered by the UAEM include sports and cultural activities as a fundamental part for the optimal development of university students.
For his part, César Alejandro González Mejía, president of the Federation of University Students of Morelos (FEUM), said that despite the adversities they have faced in recent years, the UAEM has shown that it is an example of effort and struggle, ” you are going to represent the sport, take it seriously and show that university students from Morelos are competitive”, he expressed.
In this act, Luis Arturo Cornejo Alatorre, Secretary of Education of Morelos, recognized that the UAEM is among the best public universities in the country, for which he exhorted the students to give their best in the competitions and show that they also In the sports field, the institution carries out an outstanding job.
It is worth mentioning that the Morelos delegation is made up of students from the UAEM and the Emiliano Zapata Technological University (UTEZ), institutions that will represent Morelos in the regional stage.
Also present at the ceremony were Álvaro Reyna Reyes, director of Sports at the UAEM; José Luis Galarza Espina, organizational secretary of the institution’s Independent Union of Academic Workers (Sitauaem), on behalf of the general secretary, Mario Cortés Montes; Sandra Lucero Robles Espinoza, rector of the UTEZ; Germán Villa Castañeda, director of the Institute of Sport and Physical Culture of Morelos; Fernando Abarca López, technical secretary of the Morelos Sports Commission, on behalf of Luz Dary Quevedo, president of the Sports Commission in the current Legislature; Mirna Zavala Zúñiga, president of the Youth, Citizen Participation and Political Reform commissions of the local Congress; and Francesca Salmerón, an outstanding university athlete in the state.
