Tear gas against fans
In addition, security forces are said to have used tear gas to bring the rioting fans in the national stadium in the capital Abuja under control.
A 1-1 draw after a 0-0 draw in the first leg was enough for Ghana to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. Nigeria were unable to turn Ghana’s Thomas Partey’s opener despite William Troost-Ekong’s early equaliser.
The Super Eagles miss a World Cup finals for the first time since 2006. For Ghana, on the other hand, it is only the fourth World Cup participation after 2006, 2010 and 2014.
