Biagio Pierno first in the Superseries tournament in Malles

Sardinian badminton continues its unstoppable rise. Biagio Pierno, after the third place conquered in the Grand Prix tournament “Magna Grecia” of Agropoli (SA) in the absolute category last March 20, has hit the top step of the podium in the Superseries tournament of Malles (BZ) in the Junior category in the singles men last Sunday 27 March.

The success. In the final he defeated his friend and training partner Thomas Bianchi, an athlete of BC Genoa who from this year moved to Sardinia to study and train in the territorial technical center of Maracalagonis, under the guidance of the national technician, former Fiamme Oro athlete and of the Italian national team, Rosario Maddaloni. Thomas Bianchi has won both the men’s doubles and mixed doubles disciplines. A real “en plein” for two boys who have made a courageous lifestyle choice to pursue their dreams, moving to live and study in Sardinia, Biagio at the “Martini” Technical Institute in Cagliari, Thomas at the Liceo ” Pitagora ”of Selargius, to train full time in the sports hall of Maracalagonis. Right here, thanks to a project born in the school environment, which is allowing dozens of school children to practice this beautiful sport, something much bigger is growing and taking shape, a dream that last year brought the Campidanese team to touch the triumph in the top league in his first participation, losing only the final by a very narrow measure against Bolzano.

The next engagement. On 2 and 3 April the Sardinian team will try to remove the pass for the playoffs in Milan on 14 and 15 May to compete for last season’s revenge. In the meantime, Biagio and Thomas warm up their engines to propose themselves for a stable position in the first team.
