Ten years after it was founded, the Remscheider TV Judoteam will be starting in the first Judo Bundesliga for the first time next Saturday, April 2nd. After the march from the district league to the upper house, with seven promotions, it is now more difficult for the Remscheider, who are used to success, to assert themselves.
The judo team will know how rough the wind really blows in the first Bundesliga after the first day of fighting at the Hamburg JT. At the four-time German champions (2016, 2017, 2018, 2020), the climber goes on the mat as a clear outsider. With three minibuses, the team makes its way to the far north. The start of the fight in the Wandsbek sports hall is at 5 p.m.
Parallel to the start of the Bundesliga, the Grand Slam will take place in Antalya. A clear disadvantage for the judo team, the athletes of the respective national teams start there and the Bundesliga teams are missing at the beginning of the season. Five regular fighters of the RTV are in action in Turkey: Karl-Richard Frey, Johannes Frey, Alexander Wieczerzak, Sami Chouchi and Jesper Smink.
Manager Cedric Pick is confident: “We have a consistently good squad. Everyone will give everything for the success of the team. And since I know that the guys are perfect in terms of character and sport, we will go to Hamburg to win.” Managing Director René Endres: “The preparation went well. The boys all pulled along and sometimes pushed a lot of extra shifts. Merely the failure of Andreas Buscher (cruciate ligament tear) and Viktor Wandtke (meniscus tear) hurts us a lot. One can only wish them both to come back stronger.”
