Will FC Bayern soon play in blue jerseys?

FC Bayern is known for its red jerseys. The people of Munich usually use the club colors red and white for their jerseys. The color blue, from the city rival 1860, is frowned upon by its own supporters. Nevertheless, a blue Bayern jersey has now appeared.

Very few fans of the record champions probably know that Bayern initially chose blue and white as their club colors when they were founded in 1900, based on the Bavarian national colours. It was not until six years later, when they became a member of the Munich Sports Club, that they switched to red and white and shortly thereafter received the nickname “The Reds”.

Accordingly, the first Bayern jersey was not red, but sky-blue, in the style of city rivals TSV 1860 Munich, as Raimund Simmet writes in his book “Alle Bayern-Trikots”. If the 53-year-old has his way, Bayern could soon play in blue jerseys again.

Bayern fans are clearly opposed to blue jerseys

Simmet created a design concept for the “tz” of what the Bayern jersey could look like in 2030. In addition to the English-language club name and a logo of the fictitious “European Football League”, the jersey expert has also opted for a blue jersey design, based on the club’s 130th anniversary and the shirt of the same color from 1900.

This design is unlikely to get much approval from Bayern supporters. In the past, they have spoken out very clearly against the color blue. For many fans it is out of the question that Bayern use blue elements, they feel too reminded of local rivals 1860 Munich.

In May 2018, Bayern presented their new home shirt, which had navy blue accents on the sleeves. The protests of the fans were not long in coming. On the last day of the season, the Ultras presented a banner in the south stand that read: “Our club colors are red and white! What’s with the blue jersey shit?

In view of this reaction, it is inconceivable that Bayern will ever play in all-blue jerseys.
