The first delegation to leave for the 2022 regional university to compete this weekend is made up of 30 athletes and four coaches, who had a farewell in the university gymnasium and a message of support from the head of the Department of Sports Sciences and of Physical Activity Graciela Hoyos Ruiz.
“Above all, acknowledging this effort that you make that you come to train, two, three hours a day, that you dedicate your time to study, to your homework and other activities that are also very important for you; all that makes you different, not everyone does what you do, being athletes and being students is a very strong commitment”, pointed out the academic and former university athlete.
The next group will travel to Cajeme to compete April 3-5 in women’s softball; soccer football, both branches; taekwondo and tennis. The third and last group includes tochito sports, both branches; athletics and chess, they will see action in Culiacán, Sinaloa from April 6 to 8.
In addition, there will be qualifiers for judo, postme taekwondo, karate, boxing, varsity wrestling, fencing and weightlifting.
The expectations of participation and results for this 2022 is very good, as commented by Roberto Ung Vázquez, in charge of Representative and High-Performance Sports at Unison, who said that the goal is to be among the top ten universities in the country in the national medal table. .
“We have great expectations in individual sports, to stand out so much in archery, which is a tradition that our University stands out, we are now forming the two very strong men’s and women’s volleyball teams that were impressive in the state stage, we have hope of qualifying in those sports, we also hope to qualify in the women’s branch, for the first time we see a men’s soccer team with a great chance of qualifying, even thinking about getting among the best four teams in the country.
In the rest of the sports, he commented, there are several strengths, such as in athletics with the national team and record holder in throwing, Veronica Luzanía, outstanding athletes in weightlifting and in university wrestling, as in the case of the González Torres brothers.
