Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 1st that it had been selected for the ‘2022 Regional Specialized Sports Tourism Industry Promotion Project’ hosted by the National Sports Promotion Agency.
Through the selection of this public offering project, Shinan-gun secured a total of 3 billion won (1.5 billion won in funds, 1.5 billion won in local expenses) from 2022 to 2024.
The regional-specific sports tourism industry promotion project is a project to promote regional development by developing new sports tourism programs by linking the core tourism resources of the region with leisure sports.
The main concept for this project is the ‘Flopia Sports Festival, which is linked to the ‘Four Seasons’ and ‘One Degree, One Museum’ initiatives.
In the Bigeum and Docho areas, cycling Gran Fondo (a non-competitive group competition), the central area a badminton league, Jaeun Island a marine leisure sports festival, Imjado a beach horse riding festival, and Anjwa Island a healing walk on Purple Island were introduced.
As it is a program that is aimed at various festivals such as flower festivals and the holiday season, Shinan-gun predicted that it will provide various things to see and enjoy not only for sports enthusiasts across the country, but also for tourists.
A Shinan-gun official said, “We will do our best to revitalize the local economy through sports tourism and to make Shinan a tourist destination for the people.”
