The two Carabins badminton teams finished on the podium of the Women’s and Men’s Provincial Team Championship, presented Sunday at the UQAM sports center.
The women’s delegation lost in the grand final ahead of the Citadins de l’UQAM, 3 to 2, while the men won the bronze final 3-0 against ÉTS.
In a fiercely contested final, the Carabins women’s team snatched two singles victories thanks to the prowess of Samantha Hui (16-21, 21-16 and 21,12) and Alyson Ruan (21-15, 21-16).
The setbacks ofAlexandra Mocanu in singles (9-21, 17-21) against the most prolific player on the Quebec circuit Camille Leblanc and the duo of Charlie Nguyen and Andrea Veillet in doubles (19-21,17-21) meant that the last confrontation between the two tenors of Quebec badminton would decide the women’s provincial championship. mulie Chor and Kelly Lam had to admit defeat in two sets of 11-21 and 18-21, and the Carabins gave up the Quebec crown they had held since 2019.
On the men’s side, the bitterness of the 3-1 loss to the Citadins in the semi-finals gave way to the joy of ending the day on a high note with a triumph in the bronze final.
Thien Quan Nicolas Nguyen (21-12, 21-12), Anthony Nguyen (21-10, 21-11) and Xavier Laperriere (21-17, 21-13) won all three singles duels, sealing the destiny of the third step of the podium.
The Carabins will defend their title of mixed Quebec champions on March 8, 9 and 10 at Laval University.
