NFL approves changes to playoff overtime rule

Changes are coming to the NFL and everything to give the teams a little justice in overtime, unfortunately these rule updates were given thanks to Josh Allen and the Bills, the last to suffer in overtime.

If you don’t remember what we talked about, the Bills were facing the Chiefs in the NFL postseason and the game was so close they had to go into overtime. Kansas would win the toss and start on offense knowing that if he scored the game would be over.

they did and the Chiefs took the victory, from that moment on, a debate began outside the NFL about that slightly unfair rule because the Bills did not have the opportunity to answer to try to match the result.

The rules were clear, possibly unfair, but clear. If the team that had the first offense in overtime scores, the game is over; if they make a field goal, they give the other team a chance to score or tie the score.

So, Thanks to the Bills and their misfortune in the postseason, the NFL applied Big Brother and the rules changedat least in the playoffs with this issue of possessions in game overtime, although it came a little late for them.

Rule changes on overtime possessions in the NFL

Before the start of the Draft and the pre-season training camps, the NFL is making several changes and first it was the creation of NFL Diversity Advisory Committee And now it’s up to the rule book.

All NFL franchise owners have approved a change in the overtime rules and that is that both receive a possession when they reach overtime. This was unanimous, since according to Ian Rapoport the vote was 29 to three.

This change will only apply to postseason games and not to regular season games and, according to statistics, the previous rule that the Chiefs benefited from in 2021, was 10 to 2 with the teams that won the toss.
