The new breed of Panamanian athletes will have the opportunity to compete at an international level when they participate from April 28 to May 8 in the III South American Youth Games, which will be held in Rosario, Argentina.
For this sporting event, intended for athletes from 14 to 18 years old, Panama will have a delegation of 46 athletes who will compete in 16 sports disciplines.
The Panama Olympic Committee (COP), made the official presentation of the delegation, which will be led by swimmer Emily Santos and Olympic wrestler Samir Marciaga, who will be the flag bearers of Panama.
Santos, 16, became the second youngest Panamanian athlete to participate in an Olympic Games, when she competed in Tokyo 2020.
For his part, Marciaga, 16 years old, and a native of Antón, province of Coclé, has as his last international participation the silver medal achieved in the Pan American Youth and Cadet Championship that was held in Oaxtepec, municipality of Yautepec, state of Morelos , Mexico.
Marciaga achieved second place in the 48 kilo category in the cadet category.
In the regional sports fair Panama will see action in the sports of swimming, athletics, boxing, cycling, fencing, artistic gymnastics, judo, karate, weightlifting, Olympic wrestling, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery and triathlon.
A total of 2,500 athletes from 15 countries will compete in 26 sports during these regional sports games.
