The funeral of Miguel Van Damme took place this Saturday at the Saint-Blasius church in Jabbeke in West Flanders, not far from his home. Several hundred people were present in the small church, too small to accommodate so many people, including family, friends, acquaintances but also a large number of Cercle Bruges supporters.
Several Belgian football personalities were present to say goodbye to the former goalkeeper of Cercle Bruges, who died on Tuesday after a long battle with leukemia. The entire Cercle Bruges group was present as were other (former) players such as Hans Cornelis, Faris Haroun or Thibaut Van Acker. Club Brugge sports manager Vincent Mannaert was also in attendance.
On the coffin of Miguel Van Damme hung two jerseys: that of Cercle Bruges and that of his training club, Maldegem. Her gloves were also posed with a wreath designing the number 16.
