“I know people bang on Twitter, but…”

Borussia Dortmund goes down 1: 4 against RB Leipzig in their own stadium. Then Mats Hummels tries to explain what he has experienced. While shouts of “Rose out” sound in the background, he begins to defend himself.

Dhe result was clear. 1: 4 (0: 2) Borussia Dortmund lost the top game of the Bundesliga. A painful defeat against an unloved opponent on a really special day.

For the first time in over two years, the Dortmund stadium was sold out again. Shortly before the end of the game, however, there was no question of full ranks. A number of disappointed spectators left the arena well before the final whistle. Others, however, persevered to vent their anger.

While Mats Hummels was looking for explanations for the high defeat shortly after the final whistle on Sky, individual but persistent fans repeatedly demanded that the coach be kicked out. Hummels’ interview was accompanied by “Rose out” calls.

“We got hectic”

“I’ll speak to them again next season,” commented the defender, who felt that the result that evening was clearly too high. Even if he suspected that this opinion would not go down particularly well in fan circles.

“Leipzig went into half-time 2-0 with nothing,” said Hummels, adding: “I know people are banging on Twitter, but seriously, that’s a realistic assessment. The people who are hitting it now have to know that too.”

The result was of course disappointing, explained the 2014 world champion, but: “You don’t have to pretend that we were played against the wall 4-1. Of course we have to live with the fact that we are criticized after such a result. But the people of Leipzig know that things can go very differently, especially in the first half.” In the end, however, the goals would decide.

Why was it still so high? “We got hectic and lost our calm too quickly,” said Hummels: “I don’t know if I should put the word chicken pile in my mouth, but we’re standing somewhere somewhere and then it’s going to be a wild football game. A game like this always goes to teams that can counter well.”

BVB has been eliminated from all cup competitions, there is now finally hardly a chance in the championship, 13 of 40 competitive games were lost, i.e. almost every third. It is a dreary end of the season that Dortmund is experiencing.
