Saturday, in Brittany, the Belgian number 2, 186th player in the world, beat 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 the French Quentin Halys (ATP 115), seeded N.2 of the tournament. The meeting lasted 1 hour and 16 minutes.
Coming from the qualifications, Bergs climbed to the semi-finals by passing the two previous rounds without playing, following the withdrawals of the Russian, under neutral banner, Roman Safiullin (ATP 143) in the round of 16 and the German Benjamin Hassan (ATP 321) in quarters. He was therefore playing his second match of the final table after a success over the Greek Michail Pervolarakis (ATP 406), ‘lucky loser’ of the qualifications, in the first round.
Bergs, 22, has three Challenger titles to his name, all won last year. He also has four victories on the ITF Futures circuit.
For his first final of the season, Bergs will face Briton Jack Draper (ATP 146) on Sunday, winner 6-2, 0-6, 6-0 of Frenchman Antoine Escoffier (ATP 248).
