A meticulous preparation has not prevented Wout van Aert from starting this year’s Tour of Flanders. The Belgian champion is struggling with corona. What about Paris-Roubaix?
A corona infection lasts about 7-10 days and since Wout van Aert became ill in the course of last week, there is certainly a chance that he will be freed from the virus in the course of next week.
And then cycling-loving Flanders naturally wonders whether Wout van Aert can be at the start of Paris-Roubaix? The Amstel Gold Race, which lies between the Ronde and Roubaix this year, will probably come too early. But Paris-Roubaix is only two weeks away…
According to VTM commentator Michel Wuyts, the chance is 50/50 for Van Aert in Paris-Roubaix, but virologist Marc Van Ranst thinks differently because he thinks that Van Aert should not start in the cobblestone monument at all.
“After a corona infection, the body should not be overloaded too quickly. Wout van Aert will win Paris-Roubaix, but not this year,” it sounds.
The chance of Roubaix should not be fifty-fifty but zero. After a corona infection, the body (and therefore the heart) should not be overloaded too quickly. Wout Van Aert will win Paris-Roubaix, but not this year. Professional athletes can also get sick completely and then build up slowly. https://t.co/itlityZv9n
