Anderlecht have once again settled in a virtual place for the Champions Play-offs on 1 match day from the end. It jumps over AA Gent in the standings, Charleroi was not too difficult about the fight for the 3 points.

Anderlecht – Charleroi in a nutshell

  • Key moment: Trying to defend a narrow lead, Anderlecht has been badly beaten a few times this season. Just after the hour, the Lotto Park heaved a sigh of relief when Zirkzee can make it 2-0.
  • Man of the Match: Christian Kouamé showed his energy, clear vision and cool-headedness in the home team’s first two goals. The Ivorian attacker paved the way to victory for the Purple & White with a goal and an assist.
  • Remarkable: Hervé Koffi, meanwhile, probably really hates Brussels. Today he swallowed four goals against Anderlecht, on Tuesday in the same stadium three more with Burkina Faso and earlier this season four in the Duden Park of Union.

Flattering Koffi helps Anderlecht in a flash

Anderlecht missed Ashimeru, but also with Olsson between the lines it rolled loosely over Charleroi in the first half hour. The home team only struggled with the finish. In the beginning, Refaelov’s visor was especially badly adjusted.

In the end it took a blunder from Koffi to put the deserved 1-0 on the board. The Burkinabe goalkeeper from Charleroi hit a harmless cross to Kouamé, who scored via a strange detour. Verschaeren failed to double the score moments later and then disappeared with a groin injury.

Koffi recovered after his misstep and cleverly tapped a difficult volley from Zirkzee over the bar. After half an hour of one-way football, Anderlecht celebrated the reins. That was possible without any problems, because Charleroi offered no resistance before half-time.

Charleroi keeps up appearances for ten minutes

Still, the home fans were still worried. A lax Anderlecht let the Carolo’s sniff the equalizer. There were grumblings in the stands at the threatening actions of Tchatchoua and Kayembe, but that didn’t amount to much.

The Purple & White removed the doubt on a sharp counter. Kouamé waited for the right moment to give Zirkzee the 2-0. After that, Anderlecht could play the game out relaxed. Refaelov seared Koffi’s fists after a one-two with Zirkzee and a lingering Murillo hit the side net.

In the end, the score was deepened even further. Gomez signed for his first assist of the calendar year with Amuzu’s 3-0 and Murillo also got his share. The Panamanian kicked his own rebound against the ropes.

Anderlecht again jumps over Ghent to fourth place thanks to the simple victory. That entitles you to a ticket for the Champions’ play-offs. Charleroi must take one point next week to participate in the Europe play-offs.

“Anderlecht were a size too big”

  • Kristoffer Olsson took a vital win with Anderlecht. “Winning 4-0 with good football, that’s nice. It can always be better, but we can be satisfied. If we had extended our good start a little longer, we could have finished it in the first half.” Olsson played his part. “I’m just trying to help the team. I was a bit afraid that I would get red. Fortunately that didn’t happen. In the game after that, I captured the ball and we made it 2-0.”
  • Joris Kayembe wasn’t kidding himself. “The analysis is simple. Anderlecht were a size too big today. We got into the game for a while, but after the 2-0 it became difficult. It hurts, but the result is correct. We just have to concentrate on the game now. next game.” Charleroi needs one more point. “We will do everything we can to make it to the play-offs next week. We deserve that.”
