DThe Union attacks the sports committee of the German Bundestag, its chairman Frank Ullrich. For the meeting on Wednesday, the members of the CDU and CSU, together with their sports policy spokesman Stephan Mayer, Secretary General of the CSU, and the chairman of the committee Fritz Güntzler, are submitting a motion to remove SPD MP Ullrich from the supervisory board of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA ) to be recalled. Ullrich has not yet dealt with his role as an athlete and Olympic champion in biathlon and as a coach of the GDR selection in relation to doping, the Union accuses him of.
Former teammates, such as the athletes he once looked after, accused Ullrich of having received or given out doping substances. “As long as the allegations have not been completely dispelled, a member of the Supervisory Board, Frank Ullrich, will damage NADA and the fight for doping-free sport in general,” says the Union’s application: “The resignation of the Supervisory Board mandate must be in order to avert damage from NADA, by the planned date first meeting of the supervisory board on April 26, 2022.” Anyone who sits on the supervisory board of an organization whose main purpose is the fight against doping must be beyond any doubt as far as their own past in connection with doping is concerned. “This is not the case with Frank Ullrich.”
The discharge by a commission of the German Ski Association in 2009 only applied to the labor law aspect. So far, follow-up reports on the Tokyo 2021 and Beijing 2022 Olympic Games are on the committee’s agenda.
