March 10-20 runs the BNP Paribas Open, otherwise known as Indian Wells. The tournament is the first ATP Masters 1000 of the season, and takes place in the United States. It comes more than a month after the Australian Grand Slam, won by Rafael Nadal. The latter has not lost a match since the beginning of the year. He acts as a favorite, along with Daniil Medvedev. Indian Wells Masters 2022 Bounties are up from the previous edition.
Total prize money reaches $9.5 million
In total, the American tournament will invest more than in 2021, with $9,554,920, or around €8.76 million. This is an increase that will benefit Europeans in particular, since in euros, the increase is almost 1 M€ compared to the previous edition, while it is 400,000 for the American dollar. Player performance bonuses reach €7.87 million. The winner of the men’s singles field will receive the sum of €1.1 million, while the finalist will be rewarded up to €592,166. As for the doubles, the pair that wins the tournament will win almost €400,000 in prize money.
Only one member of the Big 3 on the Indian Wells 2022 program
If Nadal’s return has been confirmed, the other two members of the “Big Three” will probably not be present. Roger Federer is still nursing his knee injury, while Novak Djokovic, although registered for Indian Wells, will not be able to participate, since vaccination is compulsory there. Very unfortunate for these two sports giants who have won the trophy 5 times each.
