The City of Granada Basketball Tournament will bring together a total of 1,400 players

Granada will host from April 10 to 13 the ninth edition of the City of Granada Trophy of basketball. The trophy has a participation of 1,400 players, of which almost a thousand come from outside Granada. These data give a dimension to this sporting event that requires 18 tracks for your celebration.

The Councilor for Sports of the Granada City Council, Jose Antonio Huertas, explained that “we have already shown that we are capable of organizing major sporting events that help us to have leisure-sports activities and also help economic recovery. Proof of this is that this tournament will originate more than 4,000 overnight stays. In this line, we present a trophy with 1,400 players and 180 games. Therefore, we can say that it is a great grassroots sport event”.



Dimension

Oscar Fernandez-Arenas, president of the CB Granada Foundation, thanked “the collaboration of the Sports Department of the Granada City Council, GEGSA and sponsors such as the Covirán Foundation that make this sporting event possible”. He stated that “without a doubt, it is the biggest basketball tournament in Spain” and said that “its coordination is complicated due to its large dimension. In addition, we have done calendars thinking that the players, in addition to playing basketball, can enjoy the city”.

German Moralesdelegate in Granada of the Andalusian Basketball Federation, congratulated the club for “recovering this event after two years in which it could not be held due to the pandemic” and declared that “for wingspan it is the most important in grassroots basketball apart from the official Andalusian championships”.

Categories

The tournament will be played from alevín to junior category in masculine and feminine form. The teams that will participate in the IX Ciudad de Granada Holy Week tournament will be: CB Montessori, PintoBasket, El Palo, Villa de Aranjuez, CB L’Hospitalet, Málaga Basket, CB Miramar Torremolinos, CB Majadahonda, El Ejido, CB Mijas, CB Campillos, CP Agustinos and the CB Granada Foundation.

The matches will be played in the municipal facilities of Aynadamar, Núñez Blanca, Paquillo Fernández, Bola de Oro, Veleta and La Chana. In addition, the slopes of the Carmelo and Agustinos educational centers will be used. The awards ceremony will be at the Palacio de los Deportes.
