Korean badminton women’s singles ace Ahn Se-young (20, Samsung Life Insurance) will challenge for the first championship in an international competition held in Korea.

Ahn Se-young will face Sri Krysina Pria Kudaravali (India) in the women’s singles first round of the ‘2022 Korea Open Badminton Championships’ to be held at Palma Gymnasium in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do on the afternoon of the 6th. Ahn Se-young, who is ranked 4th in the women’s singles world rankings, is expected to easily defeat Kudaravali, who is ranked 119th.

On the 5th, before the decisive battle, Ahn Se-young shed a sweat at the auxiliary gym. Along with Shim Yu-jin (Incheon International Airport), she was coached by Jang Young-soo, coach of the national team, to check her condition.

No matter how much you train, it’s not enough. In fact, Ahn Se-young took part in the all-screen Open of the most prestigious international competition last month, but she contracted Corona 19. She is in self-quarantine. She only returned home on the 1st, and she doesn’t have time to adjust to the jet lag. She is preparing for this competition.

Ahn Se-young said, “I returned home from quarantine in the UK until the end of last month, but I didn’t do much training.” He continued, “I’m in about 80% of my current health, so it would be nice if it was 100%, but I think I’ve improved my physical condition well enough.”

The Jeonyeong Open also leaves a deep regret. Ahn Se-young defeated world No. 1 Tai Ziying (Taiwan) in the quarterfinals and advanced to the final, raising expectations for her victory. In particular, it was a complete victory that Tai Ziying had no choice but to get tired of from Ahn Se-young’s tremendous defense.

However, Ahn Se-young lost the championship cup with Yamaguchi Akane (Japan) in the final. She tried to win her first All English Open in 26 years in the women’s singles badminton tournament in Korea, but failed. In this competition, which started in 1889, Hwang Seon-ae in 1981, Kim Yeon-ja in 1986, and Bang Su-hyeon in 1996 took the title.

I had bad luck with COVID-19. Ahn Se-young said, “I heard that one Korean player was confirmed in the morning before the final,” he said, “I felt something cheap, and the weather the day before was chilly, but I didn’t know it was Corona 19.” He added, “It was ridiculous to say that I was caught after the finals.”

I have no intention of making excuses. Ahn Se-young said, “In the end, I lost because I couldn’t do it,” and smiled, “It’s the second All-Young Open, and I’m more than happy to do it well, so I’m half satisfied that I made it to the finals.”

At the Korea Open, Ahn Se-young is considered a strong contender for the championship. While Yamakuchi and Tai Ziying are not participating, Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Chen Yufei (China) is considered to be Ahn’s competitor. India’s shuttlecock star Fusala V Sindu, ranked 7th in the world, is highly likely to meet Ahn Se-young in the semifinals.

In particular, Korea’s women’s doubles signboards could not compete in this tournament due to Corona 19. Kim So-young (Incheon International Airport) and Gong Hee-yong (Jeonbuk Bank) and Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan (above Incheon International Airport) faced each other in the bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics last year. The men’s signboard Lee Yong-dae (Yonex) also lost in the first round of doubles. Expectations for Ahn Se-young are high.

Ahn Se-young carefully predicted, “I don’t prepare much, so I think the chances of winning are half and half.” He continued, “It’s a big competition in Korea, so many people can come to see it, and it’s a burden because the rankings have risen,” he said with a smile.

The final opponent is likely to be Chen Yufei. Ahn Se-young was the opponent she lost in the quarterfinals of last year’s Olympics. At last year’s World Mixed Team Championships, Ahn Se-young lost to Chen Yu-fei and lost six matches to her opponent. Regarding this, Ahn Se-young said, “I have high expectations (for lust), but I have to go to the final of the seed award to face it.

In December 2017, when she was in her third year at the Gwangju weight, Ahn Se-young was the youngest to wear the Taegeuk mark in the national team selection. He is expected to be a genius selected as the first middle school student national representative since Lee Yong-dae. Since then, he has emerged as a next-generation star by winning victories in international competitions.

Ahn Se-young said, “I’ve won the Super 100, 300, 750, and 1000 class competitions. I haven’t won the Super 500 yet, but I want to be on top because it’s a competition held in Korea.” “I haven’t won the Asian Games, the World Championships or even the Olympics yet, so I’m only 30 to 40 percent of my goal,” she added.

Ace has a lot of responsibility. Ahn Se-young emphasized, “I have to do my best to make Korean badminton more popular.” Next, she said, “The lack of attack power compared to defense is always a challenge,” and “I think if I supplement this, I think that 60% of my badminton life will be filled.”
