Val Gardena wants to grab the World Cup with this logo – alpine skiing

That was already suitable for the World Cup: on the terrace of the Lisas’ Alm, three footsteps away from the legendary Saslong, and with the Sassolungo as an imposing backdrop, Val Gardena’s ski makers announced details of the planned 2029 World Cup on Thursday. At the same time, a clear message was also sent to the skeptics in the valley.

First and foremost, the Saslong Classic Club asked active ski racers, former athletes, officials, guests of honor and the media to the Saslong to present the official logo of the Val Gardena candidacy for the Alpine Ski World Championships 2029.

The trademark with which Val Gardena wants to advertise its candidacy for the Alpine Ski World Championships in a little less than seven years is very much based on the logo of the World Cup races and the organizing Saslong Classic Club. No wonder the organizing committee wants to impress the jury of the international ski association FIS with those values that have distinguished the Val Gardena organizers for decades: passion, professionalism, reliability and innovation.

“The new logo shows who we are. The ‘G’ stands for the Saslong Classic Club, which has been organizing World Cup races for over 50 years. We want to organize the candidature and a possible World Cup together with the entire population in the valley,” said Rainer Senoner, President of the Saslong Classic Club and driving force behind the World Cup candidacy, on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly before that, World Cup athlete Nicol Delago and young skier Max Perathoner unveiled the logo designed by Michael Mussner on the legendary downhill slope. “It would be an absolute dream for me, but also for the other South Tyroleans and athletes from Italy, to be able to take part in a World Championships in Val Gardena,” said Delago. Perathoner added: “Being able to drive a World Championship in front of your own family, acquaintances and relatives – that would really be something unique.”

“It would be nice if all three towns would host the World Cup together.

Christoph Senoner, mayor of the municipality of St. Christina, took the same line. “We pledged as a community as soon as we heard about this dream. We will definitely support the candidacy vigorously,” said Senoner. The support in Selva is similar. Only in the third municipality of Val Gardena, Ortisei, has there not been a clear endorsement so far. “We are counting heavily on the community of Ortisei and hope that the skepticism will give way to the enthusiasm that prevails in S. Cristina and Selva. It would be nice if all three towns would host the World Cup together.”

The World Cup-proven organizers will continue to work on a dossier for the next few weeks and months, which is to be handed over to the World Ski Association next year. Until then, it will also become clear which opponents the Val Gardena will face. The official World Cup award will then take place in spring 2024.
