NFL tries to get flag football at the Olympics

A NFL, the American Football League of the United States, has been trying for some years to put the sport in some way in the Olympic Games. Therefore, they bet on the entrance of the flag footballwhich is called by some short American football.

With some different rules, such as the duration of the game (two 20-minute halves) and the absence of the puntthe sport is a little simpler and has teams around the world.

Arguing that the sport’s entry into the Olympic program could lead to more practitioners and investments, NFL International CEO Damani Leech is one of the animators of the idea.

The last step of approximation with the IOC was taken in 2013, when there was recognition by the federation of the sport. In 2015, the chairman of the Olympic committee, Thomas Bach, said that it makes no sense to put “football” on the Olympic program as it is a mostly American sport.

The best chances of flag football are in Los Angeles-2028, but only in case the Games organization chooses to have the sport in its program. A representative of the organization has already stated that the priority will be on sports that can provide an incredible experience for fans and that contribute to the success of the event.
